How often should an awning or parasol be cleaned?

How often should an awning or parasol be cleaned?

The simple rule: one professional cleaning a year for homeowners, two a year for a café or restaurant terrace. A well-maintained fabric lasts 10 to 15 years; a neglected one often degrades in 5 to 7 years.

Homeowners: once a year, in spring

March-April is ideal, before the season: winter moss, green streaks and pollution are removed and the fabric starts the summer clean.

    Hospitality: twice a year

Terraces collect pollution, kitchen grease, bird droppings and smoke. We recommend cleaning before the terrace opens (March) and at the end of the season (October), before parasols go into storage.

    Clean more often if

    • The façade faces north or sits under trees.
    • You are close to a busy road or railway.
    • The fabric is light-coloured.

    Frequently asked questions

Does cleaning wear the fabric out?

No, as long as low pressure and outdoor-textile products are used. Dirt wears fabric out, not cleaning.
