Pressure washing an awning: good or bad idea?

Pressure washing an awning: good or bad idea?

Short answer: no, not on the fabric. A pressure washer sprays water at 100 to 160 bar. Awning, parasol and canopy fabrics are made to resist rain, not a concentrated jet that opens the fibres, strips the water-repellent coating and can tear seams.

What high pressure does to fabric

    • Loss of water repellency: the factory coating is stripped in streaks; the fabric soaks up water and dries badly, encouraging mould.
    • Streaks and halos visible in sunlight and impossible to fix.
    • Weakened seams.
    • Water in the cassette and motor on motorised awnings.

    How professionals work

BoBache cleans fabric at low pressure with products suited to acrylic and polyester, a dwell time to lift moss and mould, then a thorough rinse. High pressure is used only on metal parts, with the fabric protected.

Yes, on metal parts only, with the fabric protected and never aimed at the motor or cassette.
